Cottage in the Snow
This is an oil painting of a snow covered scene in my local village in Oxfordshire. It was based on a photograph that I took the year I arrived here about 12 years ago on a particularly beautiful Winter's day. There were a couple of ancient willow trees in the foreground and one of them was named by the villagers as 'the swing tree' as the local kids would tie a rope swing to it and swing over the brook. Sadly these trees recently had to be cut down due to a disease that affects willows and could have spread to the other trees that are thankfully still growing alongside the brook. I thought it particularly relevant that I should paint the picture and it also features one of the prettiest cottages in the village. The painting is mostly painted with a palette knife in oil paint.
The sides of the canvas are painted white, so no need to frame.
