Inky Thistles
Inspired by my garden and the plants in it this month. I almost pulled this beauty out when weeding my flower bed in the Spring, but then I had second thoughts and I'm glad I did. My garden is what you might call 'natural' ie I don't get the time to do a whole lot of weeding, but the upside is that it is full of insects and wildlife that feast on the 'weeds' and wildflowers! Some gardener once said that a weed is just a flower in the wrong place and I guess he/she is definitely right, what are our garden flowers if not hybridised and commercially grown weeds? Anyway back to the thistle...I love the spiky leaves, the prickly flower and the little tufts of pinky mauve colour sticking out the top. Just don't want to go too close - ouch!

This painting is done on Saunders Waterford 640gsm NOT paper with acrylic ink and a dip pen, combined with watercolour and touches of gouache. It comes mounted and framed in a white painted wood frame.
